Most children are ready to start coding around age six, when they can follow a short sequence of steps and enjoy puzzles. They do not need to read fluently: block-based tools use pictures and colours, and a teacher guides every step.
What children can learn at each age
In grades 1–4, children learn to put steps in order, spot patterns and make characters move. From grade 5, most are ready for typed code like Python, where they build games and small apps.
Signs your child is ready
Your child enjoys building things, asks how games work, or likes solving puzzles. If that sounds familiar, a short $1 demo class is an easy way to find out.
